This is a lightweight and well balanced rig that has a smooth (but relatively stiff) draw cycle for a speed bow. While the eccentric system is modular-adjustable, a bow press is required to change the draw length. Due to its aggressive styling, the Destroyer 350 is probably not the best choice for beginners (unless beginners are happy to put the time and effort into learning how to shoot this bow well). On the other hand, this bow is a great choice for experienced shooters who like top quality speed rigs with great performance and without noise.Explore all specs. One such bow is the Bowtech Destroyer 350 which was sent to Archery Report for review. When the Destroyer arrived, my first impression was that the bow is great looking and seems to exude a feeling of performance with its aggressive appearance and styling. Are looks everything or does this bow perform as advertised? Measured Specifications The above measurements were taken at 72 lbs.This bow came in RealTree Hardwoods camouflage with the InVelvet finish that looks and feels very nice. The Destroyer’s cams are some of the biggest made; in pictures I thought they looked a bit odd, but in person they give the bow an impressive and aggressive look. By taking an impressive riser and cam design, adding nice looking camo but then putting a huge logo that is somewhat cheesy takes the looks down a notch. Overall I give the bow a big thumbs up on looks, minus the ugly limb graphics. The Destroyer has an effective 80 let-off and combined with the stiff draw this is to be expected. I don’t think the draw is unreasonable and after several times of drawing back I quickly became accustomed to it. Normally I prefer bows with 65 or even a little less let-off so I will be interested to see how shooting this bow over the long run will be. After installing a d-loop, setting the draw length to my liking and eyeballing the setup, I headed out to shoot with a few GT 22 Series arrows to give the Destroyer a test run. Some things I have read praise the Destroyer as the best thing since sliced bread while others say the draw is too harsh and harp about a few incidences of cable derailment that have happened. With all these stories safely stored out of my mind, I began my shooting with a blank slate. My first shot with the bow shocked me with it’s lack of anything really. Lack of noise, lack of vibration, lack of bow movement other than gently rolling forward from the weight of the stabilizer. I really despise sounding like a commercial or company shill, but twenty shots later I was still being impressed with this bow. Rain be damned, I continued to shoot until the cold and wind forced me back inside. The bow does have a short ATA and the string angle is a bit sharp for my liking, but with the massive cams pushing the string up at full draw, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Time will tell. Secondly is the issue of the let-off. I’m one of those people that like a little extra weight at full draw and the 80 let-off is tough for me to get used to. Some are a joy to work with and some are like spoiled children that do things behind your back when they think you aren’t looking. Being that the Destroyer is a high performance, short brace height bow I expected it to be a bit temperamental. I performed a quick paper tune on the bow using Carbon Express Mayhem arrows. By eyeballing the centershot and doing a quick measure on the nock point height with a square, I was able to get the Destroyer tuned in less than half a dozen shots with no issues. Bare shaft tuning for me is where the rubber hits the road. Starting at ten yards the bare shafts were hitting nearly identical to the FOB tipped arrows. A couple of taps and tweaks to the rest had the bare shafts hitting dead on. For a high performance bow it is well behaved and easy to set up. The bumper is made of a fairly soft rubber and seems to do the job as good as any other quality stopper I have used. After a couple of thousands shots there is a small mark where the string hits the bumper and not other visible wear. The FLX serves as a roller cable guard that is built on a composite base that flexes with the cables. As the bow is drawn, the FLX Guard moves inward with the pressure of the cables and springs back on the shot. In theory it helps relieve pressure on the cables at full draw and improves the tunability of the bow. At first I was a bit apprehensive of yet another moving, breakable part on the bow. It’s hard to say just how much the FLX helps the bow, but I had a very easy time tuning the bow and the FLX Guard has given me no issues. Seeing the plastic grip of the Destroyer was a bit of a disappointment as I tend to prefer a good wood grip or sideplates. As a engineer I understand the great properties plastics can have and do most of my designing with various plastics. However, when it comes to touch and feel, a quality piece of wood is tough to beat. Shooting with the handle has had no adverse effects and it performs well. The throat is fairly narrow and fits my hand and as far as actual shooting is concerned, I have no complaints about the grip. I have had some absolutely terrible stock strings come on bows and I usually replace them rather quickly. The strings that came with the Destroyer have definitely been above par when compared to other factory strings. After about five hundred shots I had to add on twist to one of the cables to correct a slight cam timing issue. At the same time I added a half twist to the string because the peep had turned slightly. I really despise the standard sized bolts that have been used for years that tend to scar and strip when the bolt has been set for awhile and applaud Bowtech for using the larger size. It means using a different hex set than the standard archery ones sold in most stores and shops, but it’s worth the stronger bolt that is much less apt to strip or scar. Pressing the Destroyer requires a very stout press as the limbs must be pressed a significant amount before the FLX Guard will relax enough to allow manipulation of the strings, cables and cams. If you are not familiar with pressing different bows or question how to press the Destroyer, don’t risk it; go to a qualified pro shop that is familiar with the Destroyer to make sure it is done right without harming the bow. There was a draw loop, tied nock points and a TruPeep installed on the string. This resulted in a speed of 345 fps which is right within the Destroyer 350 specifications. The Destroyer is a fairly efficient bow and the KE continues to climb steadily even with an arrow weight of 1429 grains. With a quality stabilizer the balance of the bow is great and holds steady. Notice how the sound of the bow shooting is only about as loud as setting the trigger on the release. The numbers indicate top arrow speed, and while most of the specs and components are the same for both, there are differences in mass weight, draw length range and brace height. The Destroyer features the OverDrive Binary Cam, HardCore Limbs, FLX-Guard and Carbon Rod String Stop. Upon further inspection, you will realize it does not actually go through the limbs like a typical axle. Rather, it is attached to the exterior of the limbs with brackets. The axle has a series of machined teeth that fit into matching teeth on the cams. In short, the Destroyer features the first-ever geared cam system on the market! This eliminates cam timing issues, because the cam cannot slip on the axle. This keeps the bow in tune and ensures consistent cam action -- which equals consistent shooting. Another advantage of the CSA is the off-center way it rotates during the draw. Because of this, the distance between the axles and the cams actually increases during the draw and then acts as a letoff mechanism when it rotates back toward the center of the bow at the end. This serves to mellow the draw transition between the plateau and valley. The overall system remains a Binary Cam, as the buss cables are not hard anchored to an immovable object; rather, they are still tied to the movement of the cam, since the cam's movement is in step with the movement of the CSA. Rollers on a Mini Limb Another new technology on the Destroyer is the FLX-Guard. This cable containment system is attached to the riser using material that acts much like a bow limb. When the bow is drawn, it flexes toward the center of the rig, reducing the effects of torque in the system. When the shot is fired, it automatically springs back to position. The end of the mini limb is angled toward the center of the bow and houses two rollers. Layered Limb Technology New technology just keeps coming on the Destroyer, and the limbs are next in line. BowTech's HardCore Limbs contain seven layers of carbon, aluminum and fiberglass covered in an impact-resistant film. The name HardCore comes from the High Modulus Carbon Core material, which has twice the stiffness of fiberglass and effectively distributes stress throughout the limb. NOTHING beats twin yokes for adjusting and offsetting side pressure caused by cable guards. All manufacturers have been plagued by this type of torque induced limb twist. I have returned single yoke bows with excessive cam lean and put up with others that simply wont paper tune satisfactorily, sending arrows wiggling down range. (I currently have a another bow with its centre-shot pulled in towards the riser). Cam lean is the enemy of X-ring accuracy. So why dont all bows have twin yoked cams? Because until Bowtech designed the Destroyer twin yokes were awful for maintaining cam timing (without frequent bow pressing). This is why most bows are single yoke hybrids or yokeless binarys (slaved cams) which more or less stay in time, but very difficult to eliminate cam lean. Until the Destroyer gave us the best of both worlds! The Destroyer gives me all the benefits of a twin yoke system with the rock solid timing of a binary system. INGENIOUS! Theyve geared the cams to the axles so they cant get out of sync, allowing both cables to be yoked. And it works a treat. For me the Destroyer tuned straight down the middle of the riser, shot bullet holes through paper and has absolutely zero cam lean. I put on a TruGlo sight and set the 10 metre pin and squashed up all the other pins - no pin gap. Then I walked back and I swear the truth - I shot the same 2 cm dot at 20, 30 and 40 metres (1 arrow each). I missed 3 inches left and 1 inch down at 48 metres and tried again at 48 and got my second shaft within 1 inch of my first. This was my very first range test after setting my 10m pin. There were many other bows out there that were faster and lighter, but they did not have what I was looking for in a compound bow. I thought the bow size was very good, about 33 inches from axle to axle. I've been drawing the bow back, and it's really smooth. I can see and tell where the power stroke is. With 80 let off, it is nice to be holding back 12lbs to 15lbs instead of 30lbs, 35lbs. I bought this bow on Ebay, Gr8 ebayer, in June of 2010, and surprisingly, I have not shot it. My next thing is to buy the RhinoBrute foam target. When this happens, in the next day of so, I will really appreciate a well rounded performance bow. The draw cycle is a little stiffer than some of the single cam bows I have owned. To remedy the stiffer draw cycle you can reduce the peak draw weight a couple of pounds to compensate for the stiffer draw and still shoot much faster than most other bows. This bow is the true epitamy of speed and smooth shooting. I have my bow set up at 58lbs and 305 grain arrows shooting 320 feet per second yes thats right 320 feet per second at 58lbs. Noise IMO is a wash, both are very quiet with the Destroyer maybe being a touch louder given the speed it puts out. Draw cycle is subjective and really depends on your taste. The Destroyer is a bit stiffer, but again, the speed thing. The vibration levels of each is very good, with the Creed probably being a bit better given its a slower bow. If you like smooth, slow and quiet.Oh and the nonsense mentioned about the limbs on the Destroyer. I have one, have thousands of shots through it without an issue. I've also owned 6 other Bowtechs before the Destroyer and not a single issue.I have always preferred Bowtech to Mathews since 2003 though so I may be biased.But if you ask me I would stick with the creed unless you're just dying for a bowtech. It did shoot very good though.Most new bows have split limbs and I hate them no matter who makes it.My brother in law has shot one for the last two years. We trade bows when he and my sis visit and we shoot around in the yard range. They shoot fast is all I can say that's really positive about it. He's never had trouble with his. Personally I feel the draw cycle sucks eggs but I'm used to shooting a top end Hoyt too that is also a very different bow so not really a fair comparison. I have a neighbor that shoots a Mathews ChillR and a creed and I have shot both and can't say I'd prefer either over my Element but I'd take either one over the Destroyer that I've shot. His chrono's a few FPS faster but I sure wouldn't trade quality for that little bit of speed.but that's just me.You saying that sounds like a dumb redneck an shows you do know anything about achery come on man. Paint or cosmetic issue is not a true problem. It's about childish for someone hating on a company when all of them have issues. Same thing goes for Ford, Chevy, dodge,etc grow up an wake up, every single company no matter it being bows to a t.v. have problems. If they don't fix it well then that's one thing ppl should raise hell but bowtech fix the flaking by making a totally new design the carbon core limbs. An they seem awesome, also just wanna let ppl know that Bowtech's c.s. is just as good as the rest to. Yes I shoot bowtech an also elite just what I prefer. I think Matthews an hoyt are great to an would love to have the carbon Spyder here soon. Bowtechs have had a lot of problems historically. Pointing them out is no more childish than a die hard fan bragging them up in spite of problematic designs. Many have had failing limbs more than just cosmetic, the cams have been designed in several models with too shallow a groove that makes them derail with any torque, etc. That's the reality of it, sure all companies have some problems here and there but some have had a history of having serious fails more than what could be considered average too. My BIL has had no problems with his but his co-worker's destroyer (a mutual friend) had his break a limb while hanging beside him in the tree stand.sitting untouched.just boom. Folks have to consider price classes of bows also when comparing bows. I don't recall what the price ranges were of the Creed and the Destroyer but best I can recall the creed was a rung above in price and quality. May not be a consideration and the bows mentioned in the OP may be of differing ages but all things being equal.a cheaper bow will always be a cheaper bow. Of course if the Creed isn't liked then there isn't much to lose either I guess.It's a step down in quality as far as I'm concerned because it's a slug.Destroyers have been known to break from time to time, but another problem is that Bowtech once they run out of parts (limbs) for their bows thats it. If you wanted the D350 LE I would look into try getting a spare pair of limbs.I do currently own and shoot two Bowtech's but I like all bows. My last two bows were a Bear and a PSE before that. I really don't like the Hoyt grips but I never bash them because of that. Having said that I actually like the Destoyer better than the Creed. I have shot both. The only thing I liked better on the Creed was I think it draws smoother. I do like the Chill R a lot and considered selling my Experience to buy one but really they are very similar bows. If I am going to switch bows it should be for one I love not just like. Maybe if I can shoot one with rock mods I would change my mind, folks seem to love those. This is the smoothest.Very nice bow, but no longer have a hunting lease or time to hunt. Local pickup available in Tulsa or Wichita Thats common with this bow.Otherwise its a keeper.
