Most mentioned, the one I received didn't had the M-Audio brand on white like in the picture.They tend to move around so I put duck tape under them, but I will continue to use them!I prefer a piano style pedal, however, this pedal does have many positive attributes: 1. Reasonable price. 2. Sturdy construction. 3. Reverse polarity is useful. 4. It does not slide around on any type of floor I've used including glossy hardwood. 5. It is very compact and easy to store.The case is metal, not plastic, so it'll hold up well over time. The rubber pads on the top and bottom keep it from moving around, though the pads have a tendency to come loose. The main reliability issue with the pedal is the low-cost construction inside. Instead of having the pedal actuate a switch inside, there's just a stiff bare wire that presses down against another bare wire to make contact. It works and is cheaper to manufacture than using a real switch. However, if the pedal goes unused for a few days, oxidation forms on the bare wire, which results in unreliable contact and flaky pedal response. Depressing the pedal a dozen or more times clears off the oxidation. If you're handy with a soldering iron, replacing the pseudo-switch with a real momentary contact switch would yield a really great pedal.I bought this a year and a half ago and with perseverance have found that although it is still working, it has always had this annoying habit of not sustaining the notes when I'm pressing it firmly down, often at a key point in the music. Big and cumbersome, effects pedals were barely on the average guitar player’s radar throughout most of the 70s. This was due to the high cost, low production numbers and inconvenient nature of these boxes. Ever since then, the BOSS Compact Pedal design is considered the “gold standard” in compact effects pedal design. Today, it’s challenging to find an effects pedal that doesn’t owe something to BOSS’ unique design, introduced 40 years ago. The OD-1 OverDrive in particular holds a special significance, as it presented a new kind of distortion, previously unheard in a guitar effects pedal. In production from November 1977 to November 1981, it had a relatively short lifespan and low production numbers. Today, it fetches big prices on the used market (if you can find one). The SPECTRUM knob enables continuously variable setting of frequencies in the range of 500Hz to 5 kHz. The BALANCE knob sets the peak of the selected frequency. Why? Bass players found it useful for cleaning up “muddy” tone. Keyboard and electric piano players used it to augment their sound, for clarity and brightness. Since the PH-1’s RATE control was freely adjustable from an ultra-low speed of 16 seconds to a high speed of 100 milliseconds, the PH-1 could handle a range of settings. The PH-1 later spawned the PH-1R (which added a Resonance knob), the PH-2 Super Phaser (which featured dual phase modes) and the legacy of the original still lives on today with the PH-3 Phase Shifter. Typically a PTO box installed on a manual transmission will require an adapter gear assembly in order to obtain the proper engine rotation required by the compressor. There are four lobes on the male rotor while the female rotor has five roots. PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION In operation, two helical grooved rotors mesh to compress air. Inlet air is trapped as the male lobes roll down the female grooves, pushing trapped air along, compressing it until it reaches the discharge port in the end of the stator and delivers smooth-flowing, pulse-free air to the receiver. During the compression cycle, oil is injected into the compressor and serves these purposes: 1. Lubricates the rotating parts and bearings. 2. Serves as a cooling agent for the compressed air. 3. Seals the running clearances. LUBRICATION SYSTEM Oil from the compressor oil sump, at compressor discharge pressure, is directed through the oil filter, cooling system, and to the side of the compressor stator, where it is injected into the compressor. At the same time oil is directed internally to the bearings and shaft seal of the compressor. The oil-laden air is then discharged back into the sump. OIL SUMP Compressed, oil-laden air enters the sump from the compressor. As the oil-laden air enters the sump, most of the oil is separated from the air as it passes through a series of baffles and de-fusion plates. The oil accumulates at the bottom of the sump for recirculation. This valve acts as a backup to protect the system from excessive pressure that might result from a malfunction. When air is demanded at the service line, it passes through the coalescer which efficiently provides the final stage of oil separation. OIL RETURN LINE The oil that is removed by the coalescer accumulates at the bottom of the can and is returned through an oil return line leading to the compressor. MINIMUM PRESSURE ORIFICE The minimum pressure orifice is located at the outlet of the coalescer head and serves to maintain a minimum discharge pressure of 65 PSIG in operation, which is required to assure adequate compressor lubrication pressure. OIL FILTER The compressor oil filter is the full-flow replaceable element type and has a safety bypass built into it. COMPRESSOR COOLING SYSTEM (STANDARD) The compressor cooling system consists of an oil cooler remote mounted aerodynamically designed cooling pressure or a cooler mounted in front of the truck’s radiator. Oil temperature is controlled by a thermal switch or a valve located down stream of the oil filter. It is designed to be mounted inside the cab or in a protected area outside of the cab. Operate compressor within the discharge pressure limits as indicated in specifications section. HOURMETER The hourmeter records the total number of operating hours. It serves as a guide in following the recommended inspection and maintenance schedule. The hourmeter will only rum when there is pressure in the system. The switchgauge ensures safety shutdown in case of excessive operating temperatures, preventing compressor damage. ELECTRICAL AND SAFETY SYSTEM The BOSS compressor’s standard electrical system consists of a gauge panel; a remote mount 12 VDC fan package with fan switch and relay assembly (for standard cooling system only); and a resetable normally closed shutdown switch. These components are integrated together to provide a safety shutdown system that is activated when extreme high temperature or pressure conditions are present. When the temperature or pressure exceeds the maximum set parameter of the respective switchgauge a signal is sent to “trip” the shutdown switch from normally closed to open. This signal will then shut off the engine in vehicles equipped with a CABLE PTO or disengage the PTO in “HOT SHIFT” PTO applications. ELECTRONIC ENGINE INTERFACE Electronic engine interface for the compressor speed control incorporates several BOSS supplied electrical components that are chassis specific. A chassis specific wiring diagram and electrical components are supplied per the vehicle application data at the time of the order. It is located at the downstream side of the coalescer head and will automatically bleed the sump to zero pressure when the compressor is disengaged. Blow down time interval takes between 30 to 60 seconds. CONTROL SYSTEM The prime component of the compressor control system is the compressor inlet valve. The control system is designed to match air supply to air demand and to prevent excessive discharge pressure when compressor is at idle. Control of air delivery is accomplished by the inlet valve regulation and modulation as directed by the discharge pressure regulator. DISCHARGE PRESSURE REGULATOR VALVE This valve, located on the coalescer head is used to set the desired discharge pressure within the operating pressure range. Turning the regulator screw clockwise increases the working pressure, a counterclockwise movement of the screw reduces the working pressure. This system has a maximum operating pressure of 175 psi. NOTE: Most air tools operating pressure range is between 90 and 125 psi. Operating above the tools recommended pressures will decrease the life of the tool. Higher operating pressure can also over torque nut and bolts fatiguing the fastener and mating parts. Strictly adhere to tool operating pressures and torque standards set forth by the tool manufacturer and the specifications of the equipment that work is being performed on.
