The concepts This detector is for outdoor use only. Many The concepts and terminology can be quite unfamiliar if you are new to the hobby. To understand it quickly and to get the most enjoyment possible from your detector, we strongly recommend that you: 1) Watch the video. Position detector upright. LOCKING COLLAR Rotate LOCKING INTERNAL COLLAR fully in a counter CAM LOCK clockwise direction. IMPORTANT: Your Pioneer 505 metal detector requires two 9-Volt ALKALINE batteries. Follow these steps to install the batteries. Carefully remove the battery. POSITION THE DETECTOR a. Three tones will sound. The detector automatically enters the DISC Mode.Non-repeatable tones indicate the presence of trash objects or highly oxidized metals. You can increase the level of sensitivity, depending on the ground conditions. If the detector emits false signals, simply reduce the Sensitivity until the false signals cease. To Operate: 1) Press All Metal button. While the Pioneer 505 Small gold items will register under Pull will eliminate or indicate the presence Tab. Rather, user retuning is critical. The detector does not automatically adjust to changing ground and environmental conditions; the operator is required to make the adjustment. If the detector sounds a constant tone over all areas of the ground, retune the detector by pressing the GroundTrac button. Factory warranty follows the channel of distribution. When swinging the coil, be careful to keep it level with the ground about one inch from the surface. Never swing the coil like a pendulum. 1. Once a buried target is indicated by a good tone response, continue sweeping the coil over the target in a narrowing side-to-side pattern. 2. Take visual note of the place on the ground where the “beep” sounds. Page 4 AUDIO TARGET ID -Motion modes only EASY ASSEMBLY Assembling your Pioneer 505 Metal Detector is easy and requires no tools. The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) shows the PROBABLE identification of the targeted metal, as well as the PROBABLE depth of the target, in inches. Pass the search coil repeatedly over a target, and observe the target readout. The detector will register a repeated, unchanging target identification when a buried target has been located and identified. Page 8 BASIC OPERATION continued on the ground. It is lightweight, weighing just 2.12 pounds and needs two 9 Volt alkaline batteries for operation. V-Flex Digital Technology and Noise Cancellation are two innovative features included in this metal detector. It works at a frequency of 6.8 kHz. It is powered by the VLF (Single Frequency) detection technology. With adjustable sensitivity, LCD display, Programmable Target ID, Iron Mask Discrimination, Depth Indicator and Battery Indicator, this metal detector stands out among its competitors in terms of features. An important feature included here is the Three-tone target identification. When metals like iron and nickel are detected, low tone is produced. Zinc and large gold induce medium tone. Identification of silver and copper generates high tone. Maybe I just suck at using it. As a kid I had an unprofessional-quality Discovery Channel metal detector and that thing found so much treasure. Nothing valuable really, but at least it found stuff. It's been awhile since buying this one, never really got around to writing a review. But if anyone sees this and has any recommendations, please let me know. My other detector an ACE 250 which I bought after reading the rave reviews, has disappointed me in a couple of ways, primarily pinpointing and inaccurate target ID. The Bounty does both superbly and in addition has extraordinary sensitivity and really picks up those deep coins. In short if I spend x number of hours in the field with each detector I will dig a lot more coins (and have) with the Bounty Hunter. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that on my machine when you turn the discriminate all the way down, the detector powers down. Since I haven't had a need to operate with zero discrimination this has not been a problem for me but for some it would be. Probably a simple fix if I sent it to the factory but I haven't been willing to part with the machine to do that. I am able to get up right close to chain link fences, playground equipment and metal benches and hunt along them which is a nice capability to have. It also makes the already easy pinpointing with the 505 even more of a snap.
