This can be a particular problem in apartments. With the PV1, there is no rocking motion generated and the device is inherently stable. It doesn't make sound.Any help would be very welcome. Many thanks!Don't know how to open. How did you fixed it in the end.I was hoping for a blown cap or somthing visibly burned out but couldn't find any obvious damage. 2nd time off to bowers and bloody wilkins at ?180 pop. All still working at the moment but I have access to a spare with the same clicking problem. Any ideas on what actually goes pop on these things?. I'd like to try to repair the second one I have access too. I can solder well and replace components, just don't know what I'm looking for. Any help would be much appreciated, and I will keep all updated on progress, I'm just not sure what to test or where to start. Any advice welcome. Thanks The ticking noise has gone but the speaker just dont output the sound. It comes on but then goes into standby mode (red light) when it doesnt detect activity butvthe source is there so now I think im going to have to split it to get that main 3rd board out. This however is a common problem due to cheap and cheerful components being used so they should be held responsible. Im not going to spend thousands on speakers just for them to fail a few years down the line. I was shockwd to see so many components Inc the main drivers with made in China stamped on there so just makes me wonder what exactly is made here in the UK being as they pride themselves in saying this is a British made brand and product Sub is still on the bench as I have not had chance to split it open but once I do I'll let you guys know. I still want to fix this spare I have access to. I'm not paying again. The boards look quite simple I just don't know what components to test and replace. It's only 4 watts and you need more. But can you try to put the subwoofers on a cool area, mine worked for a while when it was in the garage for a while. Temperature was around 5 degree celcius. The immediate problem that arises is that reduced box size both curtails bass extension and increases pressure on the enclosure wall and driver diaphragm. Many small subwoofers are unable to reproduce sufficiently extended bass and suffer from considerable cabinet coloration, often resulting in bass that is uneven and dissociated from the midrange and treble. Page 3 To illustrate this, there are two analogies that we can apply. The first is the soap bubble. An undisturbed bubble assumes a spherical shape because the pressure difference inside and out is perfectly balanced by the only force the bubble can sustain - surface tension that is entirely in the curved plane of the skin. The second important analogy is found in the architecture of Antonio Gaudi. Page 4 These effects are related to the ratio of the sound The problems inherent to small subwoofers are often wavelength to the dimensions of the enclosure. The compounded further by the industrial designer’s desire to resulting pressure and force gradients allowed the reintroduction of bending forces on the walls of the sphere, which raised the level of radiated sound and coloration. Going back to our soap bubble analogy it shave off centimetres here and there. http://www.drupalitalia.org/node/73280

Thank you!Of course the crossover on the PV1 only works with the high level (phone line ) connection. There is no crossover when using the LFE connection as it relies on your receiver doing that work (avoids unnecessary crossover in the signal path). I found the PV1 a tricky device to set up as the bass was so clean that I always wanted more. If you can borrow a SPL meter (or buy a cheap one) and use a test CD, like the one from stereophile magazine, you can work out the best setting to achieve a relatively flat frequency response with your mains and the PV1 working together. Start off measuring the response of you mains alone as it may tell you something about your rooms response. Have fun !Of course the crossover on the PV1 only works with the high level (phone line ) connection. There is no crossover when using the LFE connection as it relies on your receiver doing that work (avoids unnecessary crossover in the signal path).I am having some issues right now. Mainly it seems that you cant reallly here the sub in the higher frequenzies, but at the low level (like an explosion in a movie) the doors on my nieghbors door almost blw right off. This is the complete opposite I want from my sub as the FPM speakers need help in the high end of low frequencies. I also dont here much from it when listening to stere music, but when I listen to DVD A its there and very laud. Any thoughts? http://crzelektrik.com/images/bowers-wilkins-manual-zeppelinair.pdf

I don't know about your Rotel gear, but my Marantz receiver is a purist and is of the opinion that subs are not for stereo listening. As a result the only way I was able to send a signal to my sub for stereo CD listening was to use the high level connection. My REL is hooked up to both high and low level, giving me a sub for stereo (high level signal only) and for movies (both high and low level). REL recommends this with their subs. Nothing in the PV1 manual suggests this sort of connection. If the sub is getting a signal then it is either your room, or you are used to boomier speakers, or there is a lack of bass on the CDs you are playing. A SPL meter will soon tell you where the peaks and dips are in your room. Bumping my subs crossover up from its current 46hz up to 80hz does little for this dip as the room simply swallows up that part of the sound frequency. I have not gone in for room treatments at this point, partly as I am not that concerned about the dip. After setting my system up for the flatest possible frequency response I found that on most CDs the sub is very subtle to the point where most people would never know it was even on. It creates a more spacious sound from the 705s and adds a little weight without calling attention to itself - which is just what I wanted to achieve.I don't know about your Rotel gear, but my Marantz receiver is a purist and is of the opinion that subs are not for stereo listening. One questions: When you use both types of connections are signals always going into both inputs. How does the sub know which input to use for movies. From my research it would appear that RELs are one of the few subs designed to do this (it even has two volume controls, one for the high level signal and one for the low level signal). For stereo listening REL recommend ensuring that there is no low level LFE signal, which is fine as my Marantz only provides a LFE signal in multi-channel modes. I was really keen to get a PV1 but I went for the Strata 5 in the end because of the setup and forget flexiblity. I still love the bowling balls look, feel and sound. It was hard to resist the urge to roll it round the carpet one more time, just to make sure it did not sound better over there rather than where it was at the time. All trademarks are the property of the respective trademark owners. Compact size. Great styling. Only moderately less successful with movies. Good for movies, great with music. Meanwhile, the enclosure itself is constructed of internally-braced aluminium. Below it sits the 600 range, while the top-of-the-range 855 will set you back six grand. It delivered tight, controlled bass effects for Blu-ray action films and Foxtel broadcasts alike. www.ecolecielbleu.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/canon-vc-c50ir-manual.pdf

For example, we can say we'd never really noticed the sub-bass notes on Andrew Bird's Simple X until we hooked up the PV1.Only with some trial and error were we able to get the best sound out of the unit. But what gutsy sound it was. Let's round them up. Here are some of the best. Let's round them up. And the styling isn't simply for show: it's a great example of form following function. The declared design aim was “the Holy Grail of subwoofer design: deep and clean bass from a near-invisible box”. So, while you might not believe it, the spherical cabinet was actually created for technical, not marketing reasons. Here's the science bit: the smaller you make a subwoofer cabinet, the smaller the drive unit has to be. The upshot is resonance, caused by distortions of the cabinet's structure under the air-pressure load generated by the driver's movement, and that's bad for sound quality. A port can help increase bass, and it's a relatively cheap solution to engineer, but sonically, it can often create more problems than it solves. The company draws analogies with diving vessels and soap bubbles: the PV1's curved shell, formed of thin aluminium, is a light, immensely stiff structure that both supports and reinforces itself, much as an egg does. Note, we said drive units, by the way: the PV1 uses two 20cm drivers in an opposed, in-phase array powered by a prodigious 500w Class-D amplifier using the sub's aluminium enclosure as its heat sink. This only serves to reduce resonance still further, and also limits floor-borne vibration. The PV1 sounds stunning The results are sensational. {-Variable.fc_1_url-

And it sounds stunning: there's no other way to put it. Often, style kit suffers when compared to conventional designs: it might look better, but it seldom sounds it. It's this latter facet of the PV1's appeal that is perhaps most remarkable of all. Even the extreme outputs of Saving Private Ryan's soundtrack pose no problems: each explosive impact has glorious weight. We're hugely impressed. The Highball was developed to destroy battleships: we reckon the PV1 will have a similarly powerful impact on conventional subwoofer thinking. Please refresh the page and try again. Any sub can sound good with explosions and thuds, that's easy, but many faulter and sound muddy with music. Rel T series subs It's a very musical sub. I'd think a 2nd series Super-Cube from Def-Tech, or a Velodyne would compliment the size of the 601's quite well. (my sub is a little too much for my liking, and I'm working on getting a replacement) Good luck! This SUB is not TOO MUCH, very adjustable and fits right in with the rest of the speakers. Nice tight low sound without any distortion, which you so often here. I also picked up a set of 686 speakers for the rear surround (7:1). Now I am complete. I will run a full balance on my Pioneer, with the microphone, and get everything in line, plus a few tweeks. I tell you, there is no reason to go to a theater any more. EVER. The symmetrical mounting of the two drivers keeps the subwoofer perfectly balanced and anchored to the floor along with no rattle when it rumbles. It also improves the distribution of pressure inside the speaker. This ensures that there is no rattling during rumbling and also improves the distribution of pressure inside the speaker. The pressure inside forces it into a spherical shape that is best suited to naturally contain pressure. A bubble with non-elastic skin can resist internal pressure changes, maximises internal volume, and minimises the size of a subwoofer. That wiring configuration is correct, tried and tested. Hope this helps. You Don't Stop Gaming Because you Grow Old, You Grow Old Because you Stop Gaming. He had an official cable handy. Which is right and left, positive and negative. Inspired by the vessels that explore the depths of the ocean, the shape of the PV1D subwoofer helps evenly disperse internal pressure waves, which often cause unwanted resonance in flat-sided subwoofers. This symmetrical mounting method perfectly balances the weight distribution of the drivers, as well as the vibrations they create. You'll hear—and feel—only rumbles, and not rattles. Together, the twin 8-inch, long-throw drivers pump out 400 watts of wall-rattling bass. A frequency response of 7.5Hz -450Hz produces the deep notes that you give your music and movies that extra dimension. And for the true perfectionists, the PV1D subwoofer features an integrated OLED control panel, which lets you control a full range of presets and equalizer options, allowing you adjustment of the subwoofer to suit your varying tastes.
