To start viewing messages,Im thinking this might be better to get than just a few meagre pedals. I was gonna buy like 5 pedals that would cost as much as the GT-6. I demoed one tonight for about 2 hours. I thought it was really good and in manual mode could be used just as stomp boxes. Please post any thoughts you have on this unit.good or bad.Oh yeah they are built like tanks, the ex rhythm guitarist in my band had one and some fucking idiot who was helping carry gear plonked a fairly hefty 2x12 tube amp down on it (fairly hard) and guess what, no damage, being BOSS reliability will not be an issue. Yeah it's actually worth doing what I did in my demo and getting a few of your fav.Im thinking this might be better to get than just a few meagre pedals. Please post any thoughts you have on this unit.good or bad. Spent 2-3 days just reading the manual while on travel and have about 6 hours just playing with it. I like it! I had been using just a Boss OD-3, PH-2, CE-5 and a Vox Wah. Just in terms of what the GT-6 does with respect to those devices, its good enough for me. And - no more multiple boxes to connect. Just some random ramblings about the GT-6. To me - manual mode is where its at. It's tough pre-defining combinations of effects and I prefer just mixing-n-matching effects dynamically. But it is sooo easy once you get the hang of it (just remember to save your settings!!!!) I did A-B the Fender Twin modeling against my DeVille 2x12 and with a little EQ tweaking - they are very, very close. Back-in-the-day I used to use a Big Muff Pi and the GT-6 models that VERY well. I like the preamp models and can get a very smooth Santana-like tone, attack, and sustain (think Europa). The Cry-Baby wah is also very good. Everyone is all about the GT8 and nobody writes about the GT6 anymore. I really want to use the Preamp section through the Peavey and setting the GT6 on EXTERNAL allows me to to that. You're using the GT6 as a preamp and your amp as power amp. http://lubimka-nova.ru//fckeditor/editor/filemanager/connectors/phppliki/boss-gp20-manual.xml

The views expressed are those of the contributors and not necessarily those of the publishers. The presets are always exaggerated to give you a quick idea of what they do, and they sound impressive in the shop. I find that a good place to start is backing off the FX to a sane level, the Boss stuff tends do have good reverbs, choruses etc, but they are factory set to ridiculous levels. They tend to set them in stereo, this may or may not effect you (no pun intended) Try the presets without the amp modelling, you might be surprised how the tone returns. Basic rule, keep it simple. The more complicated your sound the easier for other sound waves (drums, bass, vox etc) to overwhelm yours. Best advice though is keep noodling, noodle till your knobs fall off, after a while you will get to know what works for you. My Transaction Feedback Here are a few things. If you are using this with a decent amp, don't use the amp modelling or speaker modelling for now, just use the effects. Make one patch that you use as a starting point for all others. Turn all effects off, (not Bypass), set output to full, adjust the trim pot at the back to unity gain (same level to amp as guitar straight into amp. This is most important, take some time and get this right, mark the trim pot setting on the chassis with a sliver of gaffa. Ok, mow you can start from a good place. Set each effect separately, then turn off the effect and re save the patch. All the settings are saved even for effects that are turned off. This maintains unity gain and the gain structure stays correct with no internal digital clipping. Once you have done a few effects, all turned off and saved to your patch template you can start making your patches combining the sounds and varying settings as needed and then saved to a new location. http://www.drupalitalia.org/node/71872

Another way to run the pedal is in manual mode. You can assign a control switch to switch between Patch mode and Manual mode, very handy. Put this on your patch template so all your new patches have this. Good luck. Gary. Also try different hook-up methods, personally I use the 4 Cable method when using it with my amp, using both combinations of both the Gt's preamps and the amp's preamp. Sounds good to me. Have fun with it. But be prepared for many frustrating hours tweaking. A great unit by all means, loved the silence playing with headphones, great delays and effects as well I just made copies of my original patches, put them a few banks apart from my amp patches and changed them to suit the direct. Its one of those things I've had mine for the best part of a year now, and I still find new stuff I can do with it, I'm starting to muck around with the midi controls a bit now, I'm gonna try and trigger some of the sounds on my Alesis DM5 drum module with it. You hear of people getting fed up with them all the time and selling them, they definately arent plug and play units but are worth the learning curve I think. If you don't feel you can do it yourself, take it to a tech somewhere and they should be more than happy to do it for you. I did a quick google search, but nothing came up about what the actual battery is Ask for spare parts, also ask them about replacing it. Gary. Create one here. Press to use the GT-6 in Manual mode. It requires multiple power supplies and multiple connections between pedals. If any one of the power cords or connector cables goes bad, then the entire chain will fail and no sound will come out of your amp at all. This actually happened to me one time at a live gig as I was playing in front of hundreds of people. Just as I went to hit my “boost” pedal for a solo, which was an EQ pedal, something went wrong and no sound was coming out of my amp. It was very embarrassing because during the entire duration of where the solo was supposed to be, I was instead kicking wires around trying to “fix” the broken chain. It turns out that it was just a bad power cord, which was an easy fix. However, it was a major headache at the time. Processing pedals do an okay job of mimicking the sounds of real amplifiers, but it’s just not the real thing. Therefore, people avoid getting processor pedals and instead resort to using individual stomp boxes. I’ve also used previous Boss GT models to do the same thing (Boss GT-6, Boss GT-10, etc.), but I don’t know if other brand processors pedals can do this. In fact, all of the Boss GT processors are designed to function as a chain of individual stomp boxes if you choose to set it up that way. That’s assuming that you don’t want your pedal to function the “normal” way where each button is a completely different tone altogether. They had the GT-3, then the GT-6, then the GT-8, then the GT-10, and now they have the GT-100. They are kind of like iPhones and iPads in that they continuously upgrade their software and operating systems every couple of years. However, the Boss GT pedals don’t have the “bugs” that iPhones do because Boss takes their time with their upgrades. Boss is a company that takes pride in producing TOP QUALITY products. http://www.chinahkcarplate.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16273025bb90c8---briggs-and-stratton-45-hp-engine-manual.pdf

I purchased the GT-100 shortly after it came out, after using the GT-10 for many years, and just as I suspected, I fell in love immediately with the vast array of improvements that they made. Not that they GT-10 was a bad pedal or anything, but it did have room for some improvements. The GT-100 is now perfect for exactly what I look for in a multi-fx pedal! If you have another type of processor pedal such as a Digitech or Line 6, you may or may not be able to do the same thing. I would assume that those other types of pedals would work the same way, but I’ve never owned any of them so I really can’t say for sure. For this reason, I usually take 3 cables of equal length, and I tape them together. This simply keeps the cables from looking like a rat’s nest. The “preamp” within the pedal is also referred to as the “amp models”. You will be using your own amp’s sound instead. Therefore, you will not need to model other amp sounds. The newer models are much more user-friendly when it comes to setting up the 4-cable method. Every guitarist has their own pedal chain order preference, but there are pretty much universal “rules” as to what sounds best going into the front of your amp vs.This will then allow you to set one of your pedals to function as your amps’s footswitch. This is a VERY COOL feature that I just recently figured out! If you did everything correctly, than your amp should function just as it normally would, allowing you to switch between your clean and OD channels. Only now you have a nice little set of stomp boxes set up in front of you in a conveniently packaged multi-FX pedal! Boss’s primary selling point is in its amp modeling effects. Therefore, they don’t “promote” using the pedal as I do. They want people to simply use the “2 cable method” where you plug your guitar into the input of the pedal, then you plug the output of the pedal into the front of the amp. cuakeobinhduong.com/upload/files/california-notary-public-manual.pdf

If you do that, then you are using 100 processed tone as opposed to using your amp’s natural tone. It sounds PHENOMENAL! I’m old af now and still at it!Can the gt6 also be configured like yours where pushing both fx pedals can get me into manual mode. Plus my amp has a parallel fx loop so it bleeds the dry signal which is fine for some effects but wah and pedal bend needs to be the full signal. So i figure these effects need to be pre amp whereas things like chorus and reverb can be post amp. Does the 4 wire method solve this issue? I love the 4cm! May be you can help? If you wanted to use external pedals in addition to the GT-100, you’d probably just put them before the input of the GT pedal. Then just connect the 4CM from there. Glen Delaune sells labels for the GT-100 on his site to help do exactly what you suggest. My only concern is that the individual stompboxes are not always the same in the patches and if I want to use manual mode and also use patches sometimes, it might be confusing if I label one footswitch Chorus but it is assigned to some other effect in some patches. Thanks, Scott So I can’t really comment on what you are talking about here. I was using the preamp from my amp, and the modeled preamp within the GT-100 unit was always shut off. Thanks for the comment though! I only use the GT-100 for effects like delay, chorus, reverb, etc. Our payment security system encrypts your information during transmission. I have checked the manual and it has been of no help to me. I am looking to be able to change patches at the push of a pedal. Is this achievable? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I don't know offhand how you switch to manual mode in the GT-6 but that will surely be in the manual. If your GT6 isn't switching patches by pressing different numbered pedals, something is wrong and it's locked up somehow. I'd suggest a full factory reset if you haven't done that already. Like if I wanted to switch form patch 1 to 30 mid-song? Like if I wanted to switch form patch 1 to 30 mid-song?Beyond that. arrange your patches better so all the patches you need for a song are within one bank. With all the assigns, exp pedal, exp switch, CTL pedal, and the option to add another couple of CTL pedals, you can do a lot within just one patch. You'd have to have a fair bit of stuff going on to not be able to arrange a bank to do everything you need in a song. I figured they are pretty close so it didn't matter but in all fairness for the people searching for info on the GT-6 I will finish in its own thread here. The original question was about using manual mode, 4 cable method, eq and effects loop. Ok gentlemen, I figured it out. I didn't care for it but the 4 cable method and manual mode was much better but still lacked, The amp still colored it then the gt6 colored it again, yuk. https://schreinerheusi.de/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162730276ee279---briggs-and-stratton-45-hp-lawn-mower-engine-manual.pdf

It actually sounded pretty good, then I got into the EQ section and played around there and it started to really shine. I didn't see it in the manual, but it should be put in writing to not use this with a guitar amp as it will sound like crap!!! I know a guy that used nothing but a VG88 on stage and their band pack the very large Vegas lounge to standing room only every night they played. No joke! Every one of their band members that played a guitar, including the keyboard player, (and he only did a couple of fills) had one programmed by this guy. They did classic rock covers, and I swear to you it was very difficult to tell them from the real thing. Now I realize why I never saw an amp on stage, they suck through a guitar amp. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut so I can grab maybe a gt-10 or something even better for a song. I mean if they knew why it sounded so bad maybe they would keep them, hahaha. Now that I have it sounding better its time to play around with all of the patches Gumtown has with the floor board software. I don't really understand some of what the manual says so if anyone is still around using this old stuff and could help an old man out I would be appreciative. For example, and I know I just said I tweaked in a statement above, the EQ. I just started playing around not really understanding what I just did. Its not like its a slider, has a few more options. Where can I find in depth info on what it means. Lots of other things as well but for now I would just like to start with the basics. Thanks everyone. I figured they are pretty close so it didn't matter but in all fairness for the people searching for info on the GT-6 I will finish in its own thread here. Lots of other things as well but for now I would just like to start with the basics. Thanks for that explanation BTW, very helpful. So far, I'm digging just using the PA. I've found some very usable tones, even ones I hated before hand. I definitely need to play around some more. cuacuonbinhduong.com/upload/files/california-notary-manual.pdf

I'm starting to read through it. So far, its just what the doctor ordered. I see lots of reading in my future. Thanks again guys. God bless you guys. I will have many more questions. I've got a small list going, mostly acronyms. I can see an upgrade in my future. GT-8, 10, or not? The GT-10 has far more features than the GT-8, but many did not like the baked in tone it produced. Each newer unit has a better and refined COSM tone (Amps sound better). The GT-10 has far more features than the GT-8, but many did not like the baked in tone it produced. Each newer unit has a better and refined COSM tone (Amps sound better). For what I do I will probably never need much more than the GT6. Is there somewhere I can find the differences between the 6 and 8? Some of the things I'm reading in the Brilliance article seem to reference stuff that I may not have in my 6. As far as the shifting error goes, I do have one that I have seen 3 or 4 times in the 4 years I've had it. The volume will drop out to just about nothing slowly. A quick little blip on the volume pedal returns it back to normal volume. I may not see it again for months on end. Like I said, for what I do, I'm not going to stress it. If the 8 is a far better unit and I can get a good deal, I will go for it. For now I'd just like to use it and have it sounding good. So much awesome info. I can't really fault the manual. If you think its bad you should read my very old Zoom 1010 manual, lol, its worse than horrible. Been reading the brilliance PDF and it says to adjust the input level to about the letter U on the meter. How in the world do I do that. I've search high and low. Read the friendly manual, searched google, and found some info in another thread, but have yet to figure it out. I have two guitars that do push into clipping(at least reading the meter), the worse of the two, my Jackson USA Soloist with a JB will push up to the last two indicators on the meter. I've got the Floorboard software running but I can't find it in there either. Can one of you nice gentlemen show me where to adjust this? Thanks guy. The GT-8 and upward have an input level setting, the GT-10 upward have 3 guitar input levels to set for different guitar types. The GT-8 and upward have an input level setting, the GT-10 upward have 3 guitar input levels to set for different guitar types. Well I guess that explains why I can't find it. So, do I not worry about it? Then, set your level withthe little black knob near the guitar input of your GT. Maybe you’ll have to set it full up (and maybe not). Play yourpatches and listen. I can find the High cut filters in the effects but not in the preamps section. I'm assuming that it does not exist in the gt6, is that correct. Sorry for all the retarded questions. Seems that these two systems are more different than I thought. The GT-6 does not have this. Note I also added a bit of roll-off for the very low eq using the low mid band. I'll have to try it on a few others. Thank you very much. I hope you guys don't mind me pestering you. I really want to know how to use this board. I was referring to a used unit. The 10 gonna have to wait, bills come before fun Thanks My battery appeared Low and I wanted to backup my patches before I change the battery. Will the patches be lost if I change the battery quickly. I've put it in bulk mode and tried downloading the patches but it keeps coming up with. The specified range of data will be returned, and return to the Play screen. File was to big to upload.I have already downloaded the manual, but, as explained already, there is no Enter button. I should explain that the unit I am enquiring about belongs to a student of mine so I don't have the unit to experiment with. One suggestion, from your site, is to try the enter button. Or could it be the Write button? Thanx. It will take them a day or two to get back to you but they have both the GT-6 and the manual to address your problem. I have several BOSS effects pedals but not the GT-6. Sorry Bud, kcbuck That, and drinking more beer. ?? I changed the battery a cr2032 3v (key fob battery) cost 2 dollars.I thought it was toast!. I have never saved anything on this pedal so I was not worried about loosing anything important knowing it would default to factory settings.I have a peavey amp that requires a battery for the memory and the amp doesn't work when the battery dies.(message says hard drive error!) not good in the middle of a gig when the amp sounds all fizzy and frapy ?? then shuts down over a 2 dollar battery ??. I have since gone back to Tube amps that do not require these silly batteries to keep any kind of memory alive! ?? I will never buy anything that requires a keep alive memory battery.I had to progra. I changed the battery on the GT6 and still had to reset it to factory defaults for it to work. But at least it came back to life,(not so lucky with the amp). When they assign a new serial number to a factory. Photo: Mike Cameron A good number of the presets are aimed at various styles of rock, but there are some nice clean and special effects patches too. However, as with all units of this type, it's always worth digging beneath the effects and listening to the basic amp and speaker modelling. The GT Pro has nothing to hide here, as it is very capable of producing a wide range of basic guitar-amp sounds without the fairy dust provided by the effects. From glassy, clean tones through to absolutely saturated hi-gain, pretty much everything is provided, and mixing and matching between the various amp models and the different speaker-cabinet types produces even greater variety. There is a place for both of these approaches and I'm sure individual players, with their own playing styles and musical needs, would have their own preferences when auditioning the GT Pro alongside their current amp-modelling weapon of choice. All that said, I'd be more than happy to find a GT Pro in my own rack. From a technical and sonic perspective, this is a very professional piece of equipment. Pros Huge number of processing options in a relatively small space. Excellent range of effects. Ships with editing software. Cons A little pricey for some.
